Prescriptions
We are able to dispense to all patients living more than 1 mile from the centre of Downham. Patients living within 1 mile of the centre need to take their prescriptions to a local chemist. We stock most common medication and are able to obtain other medication within 24 hours.
Ways of ordering your repeat medication
- By using our online Repeat Prescription Request form.
- By using our online services, SystmOnline. If you are not registered to use this service, please register for our online services.
- Using the prescription slip – tick the desired medication and place this in the red box in the foyer, hand in to the dispensary, post or fax to the surgery.
We do not accept telephone requests due to the high risk of errors.
Please allow 3-4 working days to process your request. Prescriptions can be sent to the chemist of your choice by prior arrangement.
Please do not come and collect earlier as your prescription will not be ready.
If you require a more urgent prescription, we request that you speak to our dispensary directly.
Prescriptions charges and exemptions
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
NHS charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
- Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030.
- General public – Buy or renew a PPC online.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.
